Andrus is making DE look friendly and caring, something I thought was not possible.
Andrus: I need a favor.
DE: Sure pal, what can I do for you?
Andrus: Will you help me die?
DE: Of course I will! No need to ask twice.
Andrus: Thank you.
DE: Anytime.
I think we are inching closer to the realization Andrus can’t die….whether he tries to do it himself (original iteration) or now after somehow finding this ability to drop back to the moments before he dies (and does it without a translocator, ahem) and avoid it….sadly, I think it would be as close to immortality as you can get without a prescription, but goes against DE’s mandate of ‘All Charlies Must Die’ in a way, doesn’t it?
(I fully acknowledge I may have no idea what I am talking about, but it makes sense to me LOL)
What if the Undertaker is a future version of Andrus? One of the teasers said that the Undertaker will return, so that explains how he can manage to come back even though DE nuked the anchor universe.
I doubt things will actually come to pass this way, but I just enjoy throwing out whatever theory comes to mind and seeing what sticks.
Undertaker as a future version of Andrus makes hella sense. Especially since seeing all the death seems to make him heartsick and also because DE told him he’d be the last to die AND he was so grateful when he died.
Imagine this: Way back in 215, DE says to proto-Andrus, “Go then,” paraphrasing the full line from the Charlies’ tombstones — “Go then, there are other worlds than these” — that were put there by the Undertaker (who took it from Jake Chambers, but I digress). If Andrus is Undertaker, then it’s possible he got the line that he puts on all those tombstones from this moment with DE. And since, as I said before DE got the line from Undertaker, we’re left with an infinite paradoxical loop, and a phrase that couldn’t possibly exist because it has no origin!
I like all of these theories… sorry it took me so long to comment. I’ve been at the Emerald City Con all weekend, so it’s been crazy. We did great!
As for the theories, here’s one area where I can’t even BEGIN to start speculating with you guys, as it’s one of the central mysteries of the book. But I can say that you guys keep thinking like this, one of you might unravel the string!
Though of course, if you do, I can’t tell you. Heh. Sorry to be frustrating.
I am totally taking the date and attendant neuroses out of the equation and saying you and pfmoi share the internet, sir LOL
My wife in another life opened the door a crack, but you just took it off the hinges with that, and I dare Lord BaileyMort to come out of the woodwork and comment on this 😉
Eeeekkkk….complicated doesn’t begin to describe any of this…I LOVE the fucked up ways the soul and subconscious can mess with you…on a creative level. Love you Neal! Love your writing and thinking. Fantastic! BTW, hello from FB and Marysville, WA and the ECCon.
Wut I JUST realized the thing in the background is mammoth-riding Charlie, skewered and dead. And they’re eating the mammoth. Why did it take me so long to figure out?
Admit it, Dark Everett. This is the most fun you’ve had in years.

Poor Snuffy….
Hey, is that Dark Everett’s Evil Pavlov in panel 2 or just a random dog?
That is indeed Evil Pavlov, getting a GIANT femur.
Also, poor impaled neanderthal….
And we need no further reasoning for why Andrus is still with DE. XD
Do have to wonder what Mr. Snuffleupagus tastes like.
Almost forgot DE still had his gun LOL
