He’s been at this a grand total of 15 minutes (maybe more)….DE’s about the only friend he has in the multiverse at this point…and he wants to die, but can’t figure out just how to do it…need I go on? LOL
Without DE’s timely interference, Andrus’ life would be a loop of him attempting to kill himself forever, I assume, but of course, we’ll never really know, will we? LOL
I would like to ponder just what might have happened if DE never showed up at his apartment and Andrus had the chance to possibly come face to face with himself after looping back to the scene of the crime due to the tesseract….Lord BaileyMort, any light you might feel like shedding on that? π
I will say that we will NOT learn what would have happened if the DE didn’t show up, as that scenario would alter a key important part of the story. That’s about all I can say.
And I will take this as partial explanation of how DE travels through time, since he’s already got Andrus connecting him when he uses this ability that is not dependent on a translocator to achieve….geniusburger to the third power! π
1) that it is not possible with the use of a translocator/iRock LOL or else the thought experiments CP and the rest of the Scoobies tried would have worked better, and
2) this ability of Andrus must be somewhat inherent in the Charlieverse, or those same thought experiments I mentioned wouldn’t have worked at all.
Lord BaileyMort, do you have anything (useful) to add to this line of questioning? π
1) I would say this thought is not certain at all, while still a good one. Perhaps, for example, their thought process is akin to a Flat Earth Society. Maybe they CAN travel through time, but don’t realize it’s even possible. Or maybe they can’t, no matter how hard they concentrate or think they can. This will be explored through story, but is assuredly not certain in either direction yet. π
2) Also uncertain. Example: Say Charlie can portal to specific places, monkey’s paw style, but no one else can. Or everyone else can, but only Charlie realizes he can.
I wouldn’t hem and haw and split hairs about this, save for the fact that it has an important story purpose, and an explicit reason I’m defining it like this… for later.
Or relative now (said the smartass scribbler-type).
Well, as mi amor says, I was throwing what I considered a well-thought out premise against a vertical surface to see if it cohered or simply fell to the floor.
And by ‘well-thought out premise’…of course based upon what information we have at hand currently (this very much reminds me of my initial days in the Dark Tower saga, where King gave us scraps of backstory on Roland for essentially decades before he opened up the door in a major way in the middle of Wizard & Glass….wait, sorry, Constant Reader embolism, be fine in a sec……OK π ) and of course the hive mind of ours here in the comments, because (SPOILER ALERT) WE ARE DEEPLY INVESTED IN THIS SAGA YOU AND DUMBLEWEE ARE BRINGING US ON THE [GOD F’N LOVE YOU] REGULAR THAT HAS CHALLENGED US ON SO MANY LEVELS, SOMETIMES IF IN DIFFERENT WAYS AT THE SAME TIME (see ‘NSFW’ arc π )…..and also because you do involve yourself in the fray, so to speak…one of the best aspects of anyartist I have become interested in in the last decade or so has been the personal involvement with the fans, not farming out the connection to others, but keeping their finger on the pulse of those who are genuinely interested in the work that they create, and your mug up above what I’m writing in response is the hallmark of that attitude, my friend. π
(END SPOILER ALERT LOL)
More than happy to interact! It’s just as fun for me… And believe me, I want to spoil like mad… I am a spoiler kinda guy. I’m doing my best to be vague and yet give away enough to have fun. Loved the Dark Tower, but I can promise, barring malady, you’ll have answers in less than twenty years, heh.
Can’t wait for Wind Through The Keyhole, actually.
Lord BaileyMort: “I wouldnβt hem and haw and split hairs about this, save for the fact that it has an important story purpose, and an explicit reason Iβm defining it like thisβ¦ for later.
Or relative now (said the smartass scribbler-type).”
Would I be considered, oh I dunno, being a little OCD if I were to read anything into you using that last term, considering there’s a certain gentleman who is associated with it (and potentially another as previously speculated)?
Been sick the last few days, had more free time than usual to let my CTI freak thinking flag fly (as Hendrix currently plays Voodoo Chile in the background LOL) while blowing what only *felt* like my brains out every 20 minutes and wishing another me/Leo would show up with an instant cure and make me better, so forgive the major drama on display, I am actually feeling much better since the drugs took hold……somewhere around Barstow, I believe……LOL
OK, there has been some mild speculation of a possible connection between Andrus and the Undertaker, and in your previews for year 2 the promo for Undertaker calls him the “man from relative now“, so as one of the commentary hive mind, that use of phrase sets off a small silver bell deep inside my head that sounds like every dinner bell you’ve ever heard on steroids…Look back over the last few updates to see the framework of the argument π
No, wait, I’m gonna theorize some Andrus fanfic and post it in the Forum when I’m done….then nuke the site from orbit, it’s the only way to make sure π
Ah, okay. Thought that might be what you meant. On that particular subject, I can’t comment. π Note that’s not a confirmation or a denial, just a place where I can’t give ANY hints.
You know, sir, next time you think you may know what we are referring to when it comes to speculation, don’t ask us to clarify if you have no way to answer the clarification….LOL
Well, there’s a difference between clarifying, and clarifying in a way that will answer your question. I DID technically answer.
If the question had been “Does Andrus have the ability to travel to the future?” for example, I could answer “Not that we know of.”
But with “Is there a connection between Andrus and the Undertaker?” vis-a-vis identities and mysteries, I can clarify that I have no comment on that of yet, though the question will be answered.
1) complain that after a certain number of replies, you can no longer reply to someone and have to create a new comment LOL
2) smack you upside the head with the Portland equivalent of the Sunday New York Times for splitting hairs like that vis-a-vis the vis-a-vis LOL
This saga does not inherently spawn simple questions such as your first example, and even though we know you can’t just come out and tell us, you have used a certain phrase, [touches nose with finger], to give us at least a jolt in the correct presumption….
[Dark Tower spoilers ahead, possibly, if anyone else but me & you even care LOL]
To use a SK/DT example, we knew Roland lost Susan in a way that set him upon his way and path to chase The Man In Black and to reach the Dark Tower from the pages of The Gunslinger, and we were given hints and foreshadowings over the many books that followed (and linked across the Kingiverse LOL) until we reached Topeka, the Emerald City, and eventually Russell Faraday π in Wizard & Glass. When we sit on the side of the road and listen to Roland telling the story of a season in Mejis, even with all the facts we thought we knew from the hints over time, and even knowing she was going to die and knew it for nearly 20 years, it still broke my soul to actually find out how and why, and I still cannot grasp the depth of the loss and strength it took to actually go on from it if I were him at that point in my life.
[End spoilers]
I’m not comparing you to King, nor am I saying CTI is the new DT (even if it has liberally borrowed from it π ), but what I am saying is that the way this saga has developed, you have developed your own variation on the Constant Reader cult, and you KNOW King had to have sacks and sacks of angry fan mails asking him to just tell them what they wanted to know DT-wise and they ‘wouldn’t tell a soul, I promise’ for DECADES, so as frustrated as I may sound, I support your not giving too much away, absolutely, but that’s not gonna stop ME from bitching and complaining around here, sir LOL
As an aside, my old MySpace page (which is still there I presume LOL) was (if I remember correctly) Myspace.com/thebaddeathofjakechambers π
No worries, I take the comments in the spirit they’re intended. π
I’m honestly much the same way. If you said to me “Roland tells the story of his lover, who dies tragically, and we don’t get much closer to the tower.” that wouldn’t bug me at all, because that book is about the execution of that story, done well.
This isn’t a Susan’s fate kind of question, though… it’s a “What’s behind the final door in the tower?” kind of question… which I know is frustrating to wait for. π
Hey, if I could hold out to find out just what was behind that final door in the Tower…and those George R.R. Martin fans continue to await their next chapter of A Song Of Fire And Ice (plus I know it’s not going to take as long as those particular tales to tell this particular tale), I can grumpily await the next breadcrumb that I hope eventually will lead to a bakery LOL
I used the Susan example as a case where it could be argued that what happened in Mejis is the backbone of Roland’s entire existence by the time the story is fully revealed in W&G, and finally filling in some of the blanks in the narrative gave all that came before weight we didn’t even realize was there. Also, as meta-3rd person in those tales, we also knew things that the ka-tet couldn’t know and Roland only knew and had never told anyone.
I can tell you, even if you said “yes, there is a chance that due to the anachronistical nature of things in the CTI-verse, that two distinct characters in the story are really one and the same even though you can’t imagine it,” I could take that as applying to Andrus/Undertaker…..or CP/DE…..or Squirt/DE….or Squirt/Junior…or Charlene/Dark Charlene (should one ever pop up in the infinite possibilities LOL)
Or much like the debate as to whether The Walking Dead TV series is taking too much of a step away from the graphic novels upon which they are based, where if they just stayed straight on that narrative, anyone who’s read the books would know exactly what happens next and there would be no surprises, and who’d want to watch if they already knew what was going to happen? I, on the other hand, know of the books and have a general idea of the narrative, but I also know from fellow TWD fans who have read the books that the changes they have made have refreshed the story in certain ways where the core tale has not changed but how it is playing out has. (Much like what Roland found out at the top of the Tower, am I right? π )
I promise not to haul out my soapbox as much after this, felt I need to speak for those who weren’t (and obviously by hogging the comments, can’t LOL)
Nothin’ like a good ol’ saloon brawl to start the day off right.
<3<3<3 lady after my own twisted heart <3<3<3
So Andrus stole Dr. Candello’s great-great-grandfather’s hat? The dastard.
Andrus: ‘The air here is so fresh.’
DE: ‘I wouldn’t know.’
BA-DUM-BUM π
Stop it, you’re making me like DE now LOL
Awww…you bet me to it! LOL
*beat* you mean, right? π
This is what you get when you cut off your own nose, DE.
So Andrus is immortal (so far) and he can portal anywhere. He seems to powerful. Why would Andrus need DE if he can do all this?
He’s been at this a grand total of 15 minutes (maybe more)….DE’s about the only friend he has in the multiverse at this point…and he wants to die, but can’t figure out just how to do it…need I go on? LOL
Screw DE lol
Without DE’s timely interference, Andrus’ life would be a loop of him attempting to kill himself forever, I assume, but of course, we’ll never really know, will we? LOL

Thanks for that dispatch from the Useless Information Depository LOL
I imagine a universe where eventually Andruses (Andri?) outnumber the rest of the population of the Earth…and then the aliens show up π
And I will take this as partial explanation of how DE travels through time, since he’s already got Andrus connecting him when he uses this ability that is not dependent on a translocator to achieve….geniusburger to the third power! π
(for both DE and Lord BaileyMort LOL)
So…it CAN be done! Time AND location fixing. I am very, very, very, very jealous. And impressed.
I think:
1) that it is not possible with the use of a translocator/iRock LOL or else the thought experiments CP and the rest of the Scoobies tried would have worked better, and
2) this ability of Andrus must be somewhat inherent in the Charlieverse, or those same thought experiments I mentioned wouldn’t have worked at all.
Lord BaileyMort, do you have anything (useful) to add to this line of questioning? π
Gee, sir, could I at least get a [finger somewhere near nose]? LOL

Depends on what you’re reading in specifically… I you clarify, I can comment. π
Funny you mention Fear and Loathing. Just finished my third read through of it today. (LV, not on the Campaign Trail, which is also good.)
Hope you feel better.
