I have this theory about Squirt and the Charlies: I think that the extra-dimensional translocators don’t actually do anything; the power to cross universes lies within the Charlies themselves. That is why Squirt is able to bring Billie over without a translocator of his own. I think Squirt’s powers are more volatile because he is so young–he represents limitless potential and possibility, something that’s promising but also a little dangerous. On the other hand, I think the older Charlies need the translocator, even if it doesn’t do anything on its own, to focus their power and tap into that potential they have suppressed.
