On the advice of one of the readers I picked up and read that book about 2/3 through writing this, and quite enjoyed it. I’d read his chtorr series before, and was not disappointed.
“Salud” is not french. Maybe he doesn’t speak french – but if he does he should say “Salut” (= Hello).

Reminds me of David Gerrolds “The Man Who Folded Himself”. About a guy who time travels and messes around with…himself. And the alternate versions….
