Check it out, folks! I was away all weekend playing D and D, and when I came back I found an article in my inbox by Kate Coenen about Cura!

Here’s an excerpt:

In the webcomic Cura Te Ipsum, written by Neal Bailey and illustrated by Dexter Wee, we meet Charlie Everett, a desperate and suicidal man who finds a new lease on life after he is saved by an alternate universe version of himself. This other Charlie introduces our protagonist to his alternate universe selves that make up the organization Cura Te Ipsum.

Cura Te Ipsum, from the Latin phrase meaning “heal thyself,” takes on the mission of traveling across multiple universes to prevent the different Charlies from killing themselves. Through Cura Te Ipsum, Charlie finds a new family among the members of his team, each given a nickname to avoid confusion. Charlie’s team includes Leo, who saved his life and serves as the team’s leader; Nerd, the version of Charlie who became obsessed with science; Charlene, a female version of Charlie with weapons expertise; and Squirt, a younger version of Charlie.

Many thanks, Kate!

Lady Sabre and the Pirates of the Ineffable Aether!

Boy, are you guys in for something.

Many of you may not know, but I was inspired to do Cura online by Greg Rucka, a man who has been very kindly retweeting Cura regularly and supporting the comic. He gave me the courage. Long before Cura even existed, he was talking about several very awesome personal projects. American Soldier. Lady Sabre. When I heard he was considering doing an online comic, I overcame my misgivings and fear of failure and did it, because really, if professionals and people that we aspire to be like are doing it, then it all seems possible. Probable. Beautiful. That’s an amazing debt I owe the man, because Cura has been my most successful creative endeavor to date.

It goes to show that the rising tide of professionals doing independent work will lift us all. We’ll have more stories with beginnings, middles, and ends, with characters we can care about. This is how it’s done, folks. Get in on the ground floor and support it.

I look around and see people I admire trying to do this webcomic thing and succeeding despite the risks, and that wasn’t so common before, which inspires us all to better work. And there are risks – financial, mental, time – and yet still, big names keep stepping forward to take the risk. Warren Ellis with Freak Angels. Eric Trautmann and Brandon Jerwa with Wide Awake. And now Lady Sabre, from Greg Rucka and Rick Burchett.

It would be improper not to give credit where credit is due, and Cura is not Cura without Greg, so please, go to this comic and visit regularly, and support it with purchases. The man writes one hell of a story, and you’d be a fool not to enjoy it along with me. Show him and every other creator out there that if they put their faith in their own creations, it will be rewarded. Grab one of the posters while they’re still around. I did! Support this stuff, folks, and you won’t have to see everything rebooted every three weeks. You’ll have stories and characters you can care about and carry with you.

What’s better than that?

Nothing.

Get over there!

POSTERS!

Yes, that’s right, I said posters!

BOOM:

I’m going to start rolling out the posters we have in the can once a week or so, depending on your response, so if you want to see more, buy! If not, well, I’ll keep commissioning them for the poster bo – er, nothing! I said nothing!

In addition to that poster, I have now offered the option of getting a poster of ANY page from the comic. That’s right. ANY page. And you can even choose with or without dialogue! Go on! Ignore my wordy words and bask in the joy of the art if you’d like, I’ll just quietly weep in the corner! Or, you know, concede that Dex’s art is rad. Yeah, I’ll go with that!

To get the Charlene poster, click here!

To get any given page, click here!

Also, Dex showed me these AWESOME videos he did of sketches. Watch the Batman one… three minutes! The man is a machine!

Dex promised me he will do one for Charlie in the near term for you all… so you’ll get to see a little ahead in the story (not too spoilery, anyway) and see how Dex does this awesome thing he does!
