ORIGINAL ART? WHAT WHAAAAT?

Check this out, folks:

That’s right… Dex is willing to part with some original art! I’m posting this to let you know that, in the next few days, we’ll be posting scans in the store… and you can buy the original pages, hand drawn by Dex! They will range from 20-50 dollars, which, if you ask me, is a STEAL, and it’ll go directly into his pockets, so you’ll be helping to support Dex!

I’m announcing it here as opposed to directly on the store because I wanted to give folks who are lively a chance to write in and reserve specific pages. Some have already been reserved/glibly coveted by the dag nasty evil writer of this here comic, but most will be available!

To be specifically clear, because this is an important point, these are not INKED. Our process is to pencil (and Dex pencils VERY darkly, as you can see in those pages) and then up the contrast… it gives the comic the unique “pencilled” feel. So if you do buy, you will received penciled pages, but they are, in fact, the final pages we use, with very minor alteration (for instance, you can see Dark Everett’s shirt in the original page 35 changed).

He will also be offering original art for the posters, as well…. trust me, folks… it looks great hanging in a room. Feel free to email me if you have questions!

Explosive Decompression

When I was a kid I always used to joke about how broke I was, and thereby the Weird Al song was one of my favorites. I would sing it behind the wheel of my car, riding on the polyspare, and talk about having others to chew my food. Now Charlie’s rich where he’s always been broke. Someone CAN chew his food for him. HAW. Wish fulfillment, no doubt.

People are starting to receive their posters… apparently they went out faster. There are two packages, a poster, and the trades themselves. Let me know when you get yours… I want to make sure they came through okay. A lot of time and thought went into the best packaging I could find.

I learned a lot from the process… postage tricks (I almost got scammed by a markup), ways to package things safely. All in all, it was quite interesting to learn what media mail is and isn’t, how I’ve been price gouged in the past, and how bloody cheap bubble mailers are compared to what you’d think they’d be, where postage itself has gone sky high since I was first getting my rejections in the mail.

Funny little bit about this… we were trying to find plane reference, and I couldn’t think of a static establishing shot of a plane outside of Green Arrow’s in Smallville. Sigh! AND AGAIN WITH THE QUEEN PLANE. If you get that, you rock.

Can you imagine someone opening a portal on a moving plane? Hmmm….

Translocators…

Huzzah!

What’s this? Well, I’m gonna try and do a brief blog entry with each page, if I can, mostly because it’ll help you guys see what’s going on behind the scenes with managing the comic, and maybe appraise you of neat stuff we’re trying to do. I’ll also try to address comments here, and the like. Feel free to email me a question you’d want answered here, etc, or a suggestion you’d want me to address.

To start, I’ll let you know how the popups are doing… Linda Candello, the awesome craftstress (is that a word?) that came up with the idea, is arranging more formal and final versions that we are setting the prices for. More on that as it develops.

A special thanks to Port City Underground and Spud Monkey for their word-of-mouth faith and support in the site, among other contributions! You guys rule.

I also have two crazy ideas developing, one from my friend Jen, the other something I just came up with. Jen’s idea we’ll keep under wraps for now, but it’ll be an ongoing, monthly free piece for you all, very fun. The other idea I have, and it’s sheer madness, is a CURA THEME SONG.

Also, new posters, original art, and prints by the page.

One day, as well, a replica extra-dimensional translocator. I WILL NOT REST until I have one, which tells me you might dig one as well, I hope.

Wha?

More soon.

PRESS RELEASE: Cura Te Ipsum Goes to Trade! Multiple Universes, Two Awesome Formats!

“Cura Te Ipsum Goes to Trade! Multiple Universes, Two Awesome Formats!”

In response to reader demand, popular digital comic Cura Te Ipsum will be collected in a trade paperback for release on May 7th, Free Comic Book Day.

Cura tells the story of Charlie Everett, a man who tries to commit suicide only to be stopped by his alternate self. Across multiple universes, Charlie and his many doppelgangers seek to stop their own suicides. All goes well until they encounter the Dark Everett, a lunatic that believes all of the Charlies were meant to die, a man who will murder to see that happen.

After a favorable article on I09.com drove up readership by a factor of five, a trade became inevitable.

Cura Te Ipsum Volume One features the first six months of the story, script-to-page comparisons, character designs, pin-ups, and original art that can’t be found on the website.

The trade will come in two versions, a regular version ($10.00), and a special edition ($20.00, limited to fifty copies) that comes with a bonus exclusive full-color poster and a hand drawn and inked Cura character sketch by series artist, Dexter Wee.

Series creator Neal Bailey is excited by both the product and the price point: “These sketches, normally you’d pay thirty bucks to get them at a con, and that’s in pencil. I want to make sure that everyone gets a lot of bang for their buck. I know what it’s like to be broke. You want to get the most value you can!”

Pre-orders are now open at http://www.charlieeverett.com. Any press inquiries should be directed to bailey.neal@comcast.net.

Check it out! Here’s the cover:

And here’s the limited edition color poster, drawn by Dexter Wee and colored by Octavio Cordova Cavagnaro:
