LOL, yes you are correct, as you can see the second one is grammatically correct…I tried to quickly pull it back when I saw the mistake, but it ended up twice….and I still think DE purposely left an empty gun knowing Hank couldn’t resist the opportunity, but since he said he was putting Hank somewhere safe, (I hope) he isn’t about to snuff him because he fell for the trick 🙂
I hope the next release will treat us to another one of those awesome multiverse panel runs (yeah, I’m great at describing things…and I’m an English major, go figure). Several in which DE is shot, maybe the dog goes ape crazy on Hank, and then…who knows? CP comes in? Our own Fearless Leader makes an appearance? Neal being slightly mad, anything could happen…
Neal, is there much more clarification to come on the time travel element? I’m a little hazy on whether time is even a variable, or if it’s all just parallel universes that are slightly older/younger. Or another unique ability for CP/DE?
As Leo points out in about page 16 or 17 (I forget), time “travel” is relative in the story, at least so far. So wherever teenager comes from (he said hypothetically, knowing but not saying), it’s probably (he said, knowing but not saying) another universe where right now, Charlie is about 17. That would be (though time shifts and is never stable in a comic) a universe where it is now 1997/98. They can travel between dimensions where time is at a different point, so yes, there is time travel. And it is guided time travel, in a sense, since they can direct their portals now with Charlie present (though it doesn’t always work out the way they want it to… no humans riding dinosaurs, which will have great consequences in year two).
It is important to note, however, that it does NOT mean that time travel is impossible in the realms of this universe outside of the relative dimensions, only that we don’t know its properties yet. We will explore that more in year two, the first half. And things will get (purposefully) a mite but confusing. However, I will reassure the reader who might be dissuaded or put off by this that, by the end, I will be able to Doc Brown the timeline, meaning I can show where Biff did X, causing Y, and consequently Z, and so will you.
However, the confusion that time travel offers (per what Doctor Who is doing, masterfully) allows great mysteries to enter a narrative, and so long as there are no contradictions in that timeline (and God, am I wracking my brain to make sure they don’t happen), it can be great.
Grandfather paradoxes and determinism offer a great weight for Charlie’s character. Is he destined, no matter what, to become the Dark Everett? Is he really the Dark Everett, just because they share a power? What powers do all Charlies share? Etc, etc, etc.
I aim to capture the “WTF? WHOA!” from Lost with an actual longform, coherent plan as to WTF WTF actually is. In other words, I know with specifics the properties of this universe for time travel, the Charlies don’t, and we’ll all find out together as I help them find it.
Thanks, Neal! That really helps – I just wanted to make sure I hadn’t missed something big along the line. You have confirmed that I am in same relative level of dark as the rest of the readers… I think. Looking forward to year 2!
Kill? Huh? When did DE kill Hank? And how would Hank known if he died, since I’m pretty sure he hasn’t seen a different, dead version of himself yet, and if he died, he’d have no way of knowing it cuz he’d be, well, dead.
$5 says the gun unloaded 🙂
$5 says the gun’s unloaded 🙂
$5 says something went wrong and punx ended up commenting twice…:P
Seriously, I’m really digging Hank right now. He had a Quad moment AND he pulls a fast one on DE? That is one BAMF.

FUCK YEAH, HANK!!!

Hank knew because (in their conversations), DE bragged about it (as he did with Leo). This is one of those “off camera” brags.
Dude, there are way better things to brag about than killing people. (okay maybe not in DE’s case but still)
But when did he kill Hank?
Also off camera, alas.
