And somewhere Leo is banging his head on a desk, muttering “Stop fucking around with time. Stop fucking around with time. Stop fucking around with time!”

Poor Leo, no one is listening to you.

Wondering what the title here refers to…as far as I know nothing “tricky” is going on here.

    Unless Charlie’s about to claim he’s a universe/time traveler…?
“Ha! I get that at least once a week from the hoodlums like you that sneak into my office.”

It’s riffing on the old tv and movie trope whereby to distract an adversary, someone will say “Look out! Behind you!” and then, typically, the adversary doesn’t look, the adversary says “I’m not falling for that! It’s the oldest trick in the boo- (cue monster eating bad guy, a monster that was right behind him all along). In this case, Roosevelt thinks he’s alone, but Charlie lurks behind him like a monster, thus the joke.

Rika’s comment makes me lol. FDR never gets a moment’s peace with all these time-travelers dropping in.

Personally, if I were goofing off in the White House circa 1941, I would portal in on Henry A. Wallace (VP before Truman), give him a high-five, and then portal away before he even registered what was happening.
